“Local food on local plates……..miles better”

Welcome...to our website. Here you can find out more about the company, food co-ops and how you can become a customer.

Who we are

The Food Chain (North East) was set up in 2004 as a way of making it easier for people in the north east to buy fresh, affordable fruit and locally grown or sourced vegetables.

We are a Social Enterprise, which means we are not driven by profit. We price our products to cover our costs; any surplus which we do make will be ploughed back into the company to help us to expand our business and assist in the development of a range of community projects.

What we do

We buy produce directly from local farmers and suppliers then sell directly to our customers through convenient locations such as community centres, schools, churches, village halls and the workplace.

Our policy is to buy local produce where possible. By buying direct from local farmers we are able to ensure them a better price for their produce. Buying locally also means food does not travel as far, which means it is fresher and the environmental impacts of transportation are reduced.
