About the Food Chain North East

"Local food on local plates... miles better"

As our latest Annual report outlines the Food Chain North East CIC has developed in partnership a number of local food community initiatives, partnerships and training activities that run alongside our commitment to local growing where possible and the distribution of affordable fresh produce.

Food Coops

Currently we supply over 150 community food projects, involving over 200 volunteers delivering fresh produce to 3,500 families per week. Community coops are a great way to keep costs low, meet new people and enjoy healthy food, find out if there is a community food coop in your area. If you are involved in a group that meet regularly it could be at a community centre, health venue, workplace, church, village hall or school and you are interested in setting up a food coop or other local food access projects please feel free to give us a call or email Email The Food Chain North East. We will be more than happy to come out and meet you.

New Community Partnerships

During the last year, we have seen significant growth in relation to local food initiatives across the region, the Food Chain North East has made significant progress in developing partnerships with a range of community groups, primary care trusts and local authority staff from most councils in the north east.

We have a number of successful partnerships with local community projects including the Good Life in North Tyneside and Briardale in Blyth. As well as good links with local growers and producers. If you are a local supplier or grower and would like to get involved please email Anthony.

We are involved in the recently re-launched Regional Food Access Network, the network meets on a quarterly basis, with guest speakers, workshops, raising awareness and sharing best practice sessions as well as networking opportunities. Please feel free to contact us for further information.
